Friday and Saturday at work were nightmares, first because of a shoplifter that none of us noticed until it was too late, and then the aftermath on Saturday dealing with an irate store manager because of the shoplifter. I was sure glad to have today off of work! I got new allergy medication to try, so hopefully that ends up on the upswing!
I got a new book today, since I’ve gotten a little bored with the ones that I do own. I’ve actually had to tape the corners of the spines on some of my paperbacks, they’re so worn out from being read. Both Kathy Reichs and Dan Brown have new books coming out this year, but not until August and September, respectively, so that’s a long ways out for needing a new read! I’ve been wanting to check out the books by Gregory Maguire for a while now – the author of Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, but the hold waiting list at the library is pretty long. So voila, a trip to Barnes and Noble, and no waiting. Except I plan to finish re-reading Pride and Prejudice for the zillionth time before I jump into my new book. I’ve heard the book is really good though, and I know that Devon enjoyed the play a lot, so here’s hoping I’ve found a new author to follow!
It’s a real pity when favorite authors are dead, so you can’t wait for their next book to come out!
I went to clean my fish tank today, and apparently I’m a terrible fish owner, not only because it’s been over a month since I cleaned my tank, but because my filter had stopped working and I’m not positive when that was. I’m hoping it was today, but my guess would be a couple days. Note to self, check that filter has output when feeding fish… Anyway, I’ve got one of those Eclipse Corner 5 units where the filter is made specially for that tank, so it’s not like you can just buy a replacement easily. I also found out that the tank I have is no longer carried at Petsmart, where I bought it. Fortunately, the Eclipse Hex 5 has the same filter, and I was able to talk the manager at Petsmart into swapping me filters with the Hex 5 they had and then damaging it out, since my filter was obviously defective – they aren’t supposed to just up and quit in under 6 months. I also got a better bulb for the tank so I can actually see my fish and frogs, and I’ve decided that they’re not going to get their little artificial mountain back, since I’m tired of not ever seeing anybody that lives in the tank. I feed and house ’em, I want to see ’em! …So my two fish are rather freaked out with nowhere to hide, and the six frogs seem to be a little less than amused with their new living situation.
Back to work tomorrow at 8am, unfortunately, but I start at 2pm on Wednesday so I can hang out with friends tomorrow night! My schedule is also going to be favorable for blues dancing on Friday night if I can scrape up the energy!
