August 19th (this is delayed, I know), there was apparently a huge drug bust in Gilroy. Mike had let me know there was a chopper circling his area of Gilroy on Thursday afternoon. Turns out a house not too far from Mike was connected to a Mexican drug cartel, and is being called the biggest drug bust in the history of Northern California. We’re talking well over $150 million worth of drugs (15 pounds of cocaine, 648 pounds of crystal and powdered meth), $35,000 in cash, and a couple firearms. Seriously, how did sneezing not blow the whole neighborhood to kingdom come with that much meth being made?!
The newspaper has the obligatory quotes from shocked neighbors saying how they never knew, never suspected, but come on people. It’s Gilroy. Who is honestly shocked that there was finally a major drug bust? When I got the voice mail from Mike telling me about the news, all I could do was crack up. Especially since he lives in a high-end neighborhood, but the “I hate Gilroy” at the end of the voicemail was just too funny. Where I moved to with my Mom and brother when we moved back up here has has a few drug busts – meth, mostly, and a drug related murder in the neighborhood, but nothing on this epic scale.

This post seems kind of unfinished, so it may get polished up later, as I’m too tired now. Three cheers for lousy Gilroy? Better an epic drug bust than epic violence, I guess!
