I decided that after the fuss I’d been hearing about The Hunger Games books and movie combined with being bored with what was currently on my kindle, the books might be worth checking out. I bought the first one on my kindle two days ago… and I now remember why my parents started making me go to the library instead of buying me books – it was getting too expensive! I stopped by Costco after work and bought all three books hardcover there, and finished the first book on my kindle tonight when I got home. The first few pages are a little slow – setting up the story, but then the story picks up and I had trouble putting it down! Lots of action, gore, and a hint of a maybe-love story. I recommend checking out the books if you’ve got the least bit of interest – you can usually download about the first chapter of a book through Amazon.com for any kindle app – whether you’ve actually got a kindle or not, you can download their reader program to your computer (pc & mac supported) or to your smart phone for free, and then try out the book to see if it seems worth buying. (Have I mentioned lately how much I still love my kindle to death?)
I’ve heard from a few people that the movie was so-so, which makes me think that I made the right choice reading the book before considering bothering with the movie, which I now have no interest in seeing 😛 I also wonder if they played up the love-interest part more in the movie than it existed in the first book since the love-triangle-angle was so popular with Twilight. I just checked out the trailer on IMDB, and it looks like they even screwed up some of the opening scenes. I understand with movies they have to cut and condense some story lines to make it fit into a 2 hour film, but I’ve never understood why they have to butcher the books so badly. So – even if you didn’t like the trailer or saw the movie and didn’t like it, consider giving the book a shot.
(And keep in mind that this is coming from a girl that used to get books taken away as punishment… and it actually WAS punishment to get my book taken away!)
Featured as today’s village idiot…
Today’s idiot customer wasn’t even in my store… Shouldn’t I be exempt from dealing with stupid customers when I’m not at work? I’d gone over to Target to do some shopping while I was on my lunch break, and I guess I should have taken my purse instead of just my wallet. I’ve got my bottle of conditioner in one hand, my cell phone and wallet grasped in the other, and one guy stops me and asks if I work there. I looked down at myself – black dress pants, black fleece jacket zipped up to my throat, and back at the guy – he was actually serious. I gave him a look – probably pushing a dirty look – and told him that the people who work there wear khaki. Has anybody else actually paid attention to the dress code at Target? All their employees (except their security guys) wear red shirts and khaki pants, not black pants and fleece jackets.
And just for a little fun…
The forecast on Accuweather.com today for my town on Monday made me crack up this morning… I think whoever inputs the forecast was feeling pretty happy and optimistic when it was put in 🙂 Let’s hope Monday is “delightful”!
