Today was relatively uneventful, though it felt for a while like work would just not end! I brought a change of clothes with me, since I was meeting the girls at Applebee’s after work for drinks and some girl time, and changed at work before heading over.
Our dress code at work is “business casual”… slacks, dress shirt for the girls, button down shirt with a collar and a tie required for the guys. I was walking to the front of the store wearing a black t-shirt, a jacket, and blue jeans while carrying my purse and the bag I take my lunch/water bottles in. I had my keys on my belt, though they were partially hidden by my shirt. My name tag was in the office. What about this outfit says “I work here and am ready to help you”??
This guy wearing an Old Country Buffet name tag stopped me and asked if I work there. I told him that not right then I didn’t – I was off the clock. He seemed a little confused and just stood there, so I asked him what he wanted, which was apparently to find out if we carry razors. I asked if he meant Razor Scooters, as they’re still a request occasionally, and we do sell them. But no, he wanted shaving razors. Um, hello? My store is sporting goods. Heck, we’ve even got it in the store name. Why on earth would we sell shaving razors? We’ve got bowie knives, but this guy didn’t look that tough… 😛 I’m not even sure this is the first time we’ve gotten that request. I suggested Target – which was visible from standing in front of our store in the mall.
Girl’s night was a blast though – margaritas, greasy food, and dessert at Applebee’s, with some time to whine and unwind from work, and then I went and did some damage at Half Price Books 🙂
