All my (mandatory) parts have now been bought or ordered, and a handful of them have arrived. I ended up going through Newegg.com for most of my components, due to a combination of good prices, free shipping, and no sales tax. Amazon had comparable prices with free shipping on nearly everything, but since they’ve got a physical location in my state, I have to pay sales tax through them.
After talking it out, I decided to go with the black version of the “holy cow fun” case… still fun looking, but slightly less obtrusive than an army green computer tower. Plus, I think not being able to have the front of my optical drive (never mind the monitor/speakers/keyboard/mouse) match the tower would have bothered me.
I also got my monitor today at Costco, since they had a deal on and they’ve got a great return policy for if I decide it’s a piece of junk. I couldn’t seem to find any monitor with across the board good reviews, so I went for one I can return easily if I hate it 😉 I’d also contemplated the idea of a TV instead of a monitor, since they’re nearly identical any more, but one review I read turned me off that idea… a TV screen doesn’t time out and go to sleep like a normal computer monitor does, and I don’t want to have to turn my screen off every time I walk away from the computer.
I’m looking forward to getting to assemble this, and I sure hope we get to move soon so I’ve got somewhere more convenient to keep my computer!
Links to everything are in the green bar (if you’re on a computer instead of mobile device) under “Desktop 2013”. I suppose I should name the computer something, but I’m lacking in ideas right now. I think there’s a drop-down menu if you’re on a mobile device to get into that page, but I’m too lazy right now to get up and get my phone.
