As I mentioned in my previous post, I bought a Butterick pattern for a “market tote” sling bag. After five trips to JoAnn Fabrics (don’t ask), I had everything I needed to make my bag. I was able to get my fabric cut in the evenings after work this week, and I spent the majority of my Saturday making the bag.
Since I’m planning on using the bag I made as a purse/carry-all, I decided to add some pockets to the bag – the original pattern did not include any pockets, which just was not going to work for a purse!
I suppose the bag could even be made reversible, using the lightweight canvas as both lining and exterior. I used the machine washable decorative canvas you can find at JoAnn Fabrics, and just some plain cotton print fabric that I liked as the lining.
