there anyway, and the last thing I need a few weeks or months out from this surgery is to get appendicitis, and the doctor said it was inflamed, so she took it out, too. Four incisions, a few days of anesthesia and drug induced blur, and I’m finally up and moving around a bit… on Friday. The skin glue they have over my incisions is driving me bonkers, both pulling and itching, but at least I can be upright without feeling like I’m going to die. As part of laproscopic surgery, they fill your abdomen up with carbon dioxide so you resemble a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon. Unfortunately, they aren’t able to get it all back out before they sew you up, so it causes pain while it reabsorbs, which includes intense shoulder pain if you’re anythign other than flat on your back for more than a couple seconds.
We’ve had a very busy month! Our new house finally closed at the beginning of the month, and Destin took a week off of work to work on cleaning and moving. The cleaning ended up being more involved than we’d planned – including ripping out carpet, carpet pad – and even in one area, subfloor – in addition to the thorough scrubbing we knew it would need. We finally started staying the night on October 5th, in one of the spare rooms, since Destin had had to rip out all the carpet in the master the first day he started working on the house. After the urine stain and odor had soaked up through three coats of Rodda’s shellac based primer, my mom and her husband helped Destin replace one full sheet and one partial sheet of subfloor in the master bedroom to get rid of the urine stench. My mom and her husband then came out several days during the week to paint our bedroom for us while we were at work so that it was all painted before we got the new carpet installed. They even replaced the dim light fixture in the master closet for us!
We’ve got the majority of our stuff moved in, and even a good portion of it unpacked now. I even have some photos up on PhotoBucket! We’ve had a new fridge and washer and dryer delivered and installed, and Destin replaced the microwave over the range one day while I was at work. Our new stove gets delivered tomorrow – crossing my fingers for no issues with it fitting! After we moved in, we discovered that not only do the two larger burners on the stove not work (the wiring is burned up), the microwave didn’t work either! We had planned on replacing those two appliances eventually… just not immediately! We still have a few bulky items to get from my mom’s house, and from his mom’s house, but it’s looking like home… and it’s ours!
The cats have been appreciating us sleeping in the same building as them, again (they weren’t when we stayed with my mom), and they also seem to be appreciating the carpet in the rec room (also replaced when the master carpet was done). They get much better traction for playing than they do on the laminate floors!
This past Monday I also finally had surgery for my endometriosis. It’s something I’ve been dealing with for years, though in the past year and a half the pain has gotten much worse. I finally found a doctor that had a solution other than “try an anti-inflammatory”, which was fantastic. Rather than the laser-ablation many women have done, my doctor opted for an excision that takes all of the endometriosos that she can find, rather than burning off the top layer, only to have it begin causing pain again 3-6 months later. Partially at my request, my doctor also removed my appendix during surgery. I figured what the heck, they’re already in
I’m looking forward to further recovery – and am thankful I’m off work all of next week too – so that I can go back to regular activities… like unpacking, and crafting! I started working some of our hiking photos into an album program I bought through Aubri from Stampin’ Up!, which looks like it will work out wonderfully for what I need. The program will allow me to export each page as a 12×12 (or page size of our choice) JPEG file that I can then upload to Costco and have printed. I really want to knit something now, and sew another shoulder bag for my projects, but I can’t think of what to knit! Any suggestions?
