We couldn’t figure out how Monkey could be friendly with other cats outdoors, but still isn’t friendly with Mia while indoors. Turns out she’ll only be friendly with other cats while outdoors…
We’ve seen Monkey outside with a gray cat, and we’ve seen a solid black cat hanging around too. (And yes, Monkey is spayed). I was frustrated that Monkey can make friends with strange neighborhood cats, but still won’t get along with Mia. Turns out they’re only friendly outdoors, because when I cracked the door to see the gray cat while holding Monkey, she growled at it! The black cat was crying at our door tonight, and we’ve seen it looking in from the rain with sad eyes, but it runs off when I open the door. But Destin and Mia both say NO MORE KITTIES (which I agree with), so outdoors it will stay… hopefully not famous last words, I’ve run out of places to put litter boxes since you’re supposed to have at least one more litter box than number of kitties!
On a side note, Monkey and Mia seem to be getting along marginally better now that Monkey gets to burn 8-10 hours of energy outside every night, burning off some hunting instinct, and enough energy that she sleeps most of the day. She usually starts crying to go out around 12:30 to 2am, and since we want to sleep instead of listening to a cat howl at the bedroom door, we oblige.
Mia seems to be having an upset tummy lately, though. I won’t go into details, but I’m hoping I can run into the vet tomorrow before work and have them do some lab work before actually taking Mia in, though she’s scheduled for Friday morning. It’s a little more than half an hour drive, which isn’t that fun with an upset cat in the back seat. I hope she’s going to be okay! She isn’t acting sick, so I suppose that must be a good sign!
