I came across an adorable pattern for a “Bubble Dress” by Straight Grain through Pinterest a few months ago that I couldn’t pass up, especially with my niece’s first birthday this fall!
At first I was only going to make one dress, but then I came across another fabric at my favorite quilt shop, The Quilt Barn, that I just couldn’t pass up, so she ended up with two dresses for a birthday gift. I know we’re about out of sleeveless dress season now, but they’ll also be adorable with a long sleeve onesie and some tights!
I also made a couple matching hair clips with coordinating fabric for the dresses from fabric yo-yos, metal hair clips, and some ribbon. Thanks to a tutorial by Ashley at Make It & Love It, I put shelf liner (yes, you read that correctly) on the inside of the top of the clip, and they stay in fine baby hair beautifully! They were fun and easy to make, so after a tweak or two, they may end up on my Etsy shop.
I’d bought some baby hangers from Target for the dresses (who can pass up ten hangers for a dollar?), and had fun boxing them up for wrapping! The two dresses are made of different fabric types, so each tag has the individual dress’s washing instructions, and I clipped the matching hair clip to the tag as well.
Her birthday party was today, and the dresses were a hit. I’d made the 18 month size, which she’s pretty well swimming in right now, but they’ll last a little longer, and it was nice and airy for the temps in the 80’s today! I’ve also had the offer of modelling services, if I need a model for the things I make 🙂
