Destin had to work this past Saturday, so I spent the day running around. I headed up to the Timbuk2 store in Seattle to check out the camera insert I was interested in. Success! My Canon Rebel T3i DSLR camera fits in the extra small insert well, leaving me a little extra room for other bits in my size small messenger bag. I’ll do a proper review once I’ve had it out and about. I also picked up a pair of their “silencer straps” that cover the hook part of the velcro on the bag, so you can go stealth-mode for getting into and out of the bag using just the buckles.
On my way back from Seattle, I hopped off of I-5 at my Grandma’s exit to go surprise her for a visit. Thankfully, once I checked in at the front desk of the building, I didn’t get any weird looks as I wandered through the common areas looking for her, since she wasn’t in her apartment. I tracked her down in the library, and we had a nice visit. I love the photo I took of the two of us! After visiting with my Grandma for a bit, I headed off to Mom’s house next for a bit. Since Destin was working all day Saturday, we had decided to bail on the festivities for Mother’s Day (so glad my mom is understanding!), and it was really nice to have some one-on-one time with both of them! Sometimes it’s just too hard to have a good visit in a crowd.
(I’m really glad that one of my sisters taught me the best way to take a “selfie” with a point-and-shoot digital camera – instead of trying to turn the camera around so that it is upright and facing you, turn it upside down, so that when you hold the camera with your right hand, your thumb is on the shutter button. It’s much easier to aim the camera and hold it steady while pressing the shutter button that way!)
I did quite a bit of garden prep on Sunday while Destin mowed and rototilled around my raised vegetable beds for me. If anybody ever needs a decent quantity of rocks the size of a potato or larger, come check about half an inch under my lawn! I’m evidently terribly out of shape as my muscles finally stopped complaining today about all the work I did with a hoe on Sunday! And then a mole promptly went nuts from the ground vibrations and left two large molehills on either side of one of my raised beds. I’m sure glad I put chicken wire in the bottom of my beds before I added dirt! It’s still not much to look at – my peas are about 6″ tall right now in large plastic planters, and my raised vegetable beds are currently two wooden boxes of dirt, with a strip of dirt around the edge. I’ll share pictures when there’s actually something to look at!
Today was the first day I actually had to report to the courthouse for Jury Duty, which I’ll post more about in a few days, but it was a nice relaxing morning with my Chromebook getting caught up on Castle and NCIS (and if anybody else saw it, what the hell??) and about two hours of Netflix. At home, I feel guilty about vegging out for several hours in front of the tv – there are always chores to be done, and several sewing projects that need finishing, but stuck sitting in the jury assembly room was guilt-free Netflix! I absolutely love the battery life on my Chromebook… several hours of video, and it still has six hours remaining!
I got another smile when I got home from my errands after work. You may remember that I had left flowers at a couple of neighbors’ houses for May Day? One of them figured out it was me (I’m not sure how), and I came home to a lovely thank you note and a plate of cookies! I’m glad that my flowers inspired the smiles and memories that had been intended. So next May Day – or any holiday, or any random day, really – go leave goodies for a neighbor and spread some smiles! Tell me about any smiles you’ve spread lately!
