This past Tuesday, I decided that doing the dishes in the sink was totally overrated. When I got home from work, I tossed some of my fabrics in the wash on warm to get any bleeding and/or shrinking out of their system, and worked on four quilt blocks for the Tacoma Modern Quilt Guild instead. The blocks everybody brings will then be made into small quilts for a couple of charity groups.
The “block of the month” for December was any block we wanted to make in red and white, 12.5 inches square. I’d picked up a few quarter yard cuts of fabric at Gee-Gee’s Quilting in Yelm on Black Friday specifically for this project, and I had some white left over from my Polaroid Greeting Swap blocks. I couldn’t decide on which block to make… so I made four! The top two in the picture you see are blocks 17 (left) and 13 (right) from the pattern I got for the Moda Modern Building Blocks Pattern (I plan to start the quilt next month or so), and the bottom two are blocks I’ve done before in other quilts – the Double Pinwheel, and the Ribbon Star (which I couldn’t really find the same pattern I’d used online, but I still had my notes from the quilt I’d used it in. I’ve done so much English Paper Piecing in my last several projects, that I’d forgotten how hard it can be to get the bulkier seams to iron flat. I wish my patterns had better directions for which way to iron the seam allowances to make them go together smoother. I did like making four quilt blocks, leaving them stacked in a pile, and being able to call the project done!
(For the record, I did the dishes, too)
I haven’t been able to finish my name tag/lanyard for the December meeting yet. It’s actually been harder than I would have thought to find a swivel snap clip for a lanyard an inch wide, but I’ve got one ordered through Etsy from Sew Can She (the same woman that I found the directions for the lanyard itself from). It’s supposed to come tomorrow, so hopefully I can get it finished tomorrow night! Luckily for me, the guild meeting isn’t for over a week, so I’ve got time to have it done before the meeting!
I didn’t do any sewing this weekend, even though I’ve finally got some more fabric for a couple more Sew Together Bags. I got to sleep in on Saturday – accidentally until nearly eleven, but I obviously needed the sleep and it felt wonderful! We did a little shopping, and headed up to my favorite shooting range this morning. It’s been forever since I’ve been to the range (over a year, I think), so it was nice to get back there. I did better than I expected that I would, especially with how long it’s been! I also found out that a range closer to my house offers free lane rental to ladies on Thursdays, so that might be a new Thursday outing here soon!
I also got our Christmas tree up this afternoon, but we haven’t started decorating it yet. Monkey’s a bit disgruntled that I moved her favorite chair out from in front of the living room window, but last year she and Mia liked sleeping on the tree skirt enough that I think she’ll get over it.
