In addition to the Sew Together Bag that I made for myself this month, I made three others for gifts for family… in under a week and a half… because I’m insane. I’m sure glad I’d taken the whole week of Christmas off! I still want to make one more, in the “mini” size, but I’m letting myself relax for a day or two first!
My favorite is the one that I made for my mom. I came across Moda’s Hello Darling line by Bonnie and Camille at The Quilt Barn in Puyallup (no affiliation to the blog with the amazing photo tutorial for these bags). I love these fabrics, and that stripe is perfect for bindings! If I could come up with a reason that I would need a second bag for myself, these would definitely be colors for it! For the outside, I used Essex Linen in charcoal. I really like the look and feel of their linen blend, and I wish I could find it at a LQS instead of having to buy it online. I’d also found a pin that said “rippity doo dah!”, which was just perfect for the bag for my mom: the most important advice she’s ever given me is that when things are going wrong with a project and you’re getting frustrated, it’s time to get out the seam ripper, undo whatever seam just went wrong, and walk away for the evening.
For my Grandma, I found some pretty purple lilac prints. She wears a lot of purple (it’s a good color on her) and I figured that it would be a nice color for her bag, too. The outside of her bag is Essex Linen in graphite. She seemed really happy with it, and as a bonus, I got to have fun showing it off to the rest of the family when I gifted it on Christmas Eve 🙂
The last bag, I made for Destin’s mom. I used some of the same Moda Farmhouse line by Fig Tree& co. that I used for my great-aunt’s bag. This one proved to be the most frustrating, since I didn’t find out that the main zipper was defective until after I had the bag completed! It kept splitting when I would try to zip it closed, and got worse as I worked it instead of improving, so I had to replace the main zipper before gifting it. Luckily, I had a spare zipper laying around in the right color, and I was able to get it fixed and finished in time!
These bags are addicting, but even so, three bags in under a week and a half was a bit much with other Christmas prep to do!
